Gardening Club...

Meets 1st Tuesday in the month - Next Meeting 4th April 2023

Hello everyone and a very happy new year to all.

I am delighted to announce that our first 2023 meeting will be on Feb 7th starting at 7.30pm.

What can be more uplifting than looking at one of the most beautiful places in the UK, the Scilly Isles.

Giving us a pictorial evenings guide to all things flora and fauna will be our very own Judith Finney. She has called her talk "The isles of Scilly, a naturalists heaven".

We look forward to seeing you all again after our winter break and being able to catch up with all your news and plans for the coming year. I can see the noses of my dafs, crocus and tulips already pushing through the cold earth. It will soon be spring!

Everyone is welcome and you do not need to be a member to come to any of the meetings, (it is however £1 less on the door) and includes refreshments.

Do come along and enjoy the friendly welcome and atmosphere of your local gardening and wildlife club.

Hello dear friends.

It really is feeling like spring. Looking around I can see everything in the garden coming back to life.

Although it is still cold, a few hours outside tidying up and checking the slightly tender plants have

survived, lift the spirits.

Starting us off this spring I am delighted to welcome back a real favourite Kelvin Pye, from Southport, Kelvin will be bringing a selection of his nursery grown veg, fruit shrubs trees, and flowering plants to discuss and purchase. He will be giving us a talk entitled ”Wild food foraging”.

His knowledge of growing and cultivation is vast and he is more than happy to chat about any of the plants you are interested in. He asked me to mention that if you want anything specific you can contact him directly as he has limited space in his van. If you need compost, growing containers, particular fruit trees, shrubs or other please get in touch.

Everyone is welcome to any of our meetings you do not have to be a member. It is however only £5 to

become a member. Entry is £4 or £3 if a member. This includes refreshments. Membership renewal starts

in March this includes visits to our open gardens and Christmas party. Kelvin is able to take card

payments so bring your plastic with you!

Fondest wishes to you all and hope to see you next Tuesday,

February Report

Hello and welcome to our garden club report for April.

On Tuesday 4th April I am delighted to welcome back a couple of real chracters from Southports Highpark Nursery, Ian and Sheila Lowe.

We had a great time last year when they gave a talk and demonstration.

This time Ian (with Sheila giving directions) will be showing some potting methods using some of the vast choice of plants and gardenalia that they will be bringing for us to purchase. Sheila told me Ian will be giving a talk on extending the growing seasons and using containers. Not just flowering plants and bushes, but also veg.

Please come along to the village hall at 7.30  I can assure you of a very entertaining evening.

I am looking forward very much to seing you there.

Fondest wishes and thank you.
